Early jobs and what did you learn most/like best?
My first job was helping out after school at a neighbor’s small business – picking orders in the warehouse and sweeping the floors. Over time, I found more and more ways to get involved, from order entry, reconciling invoices to some part-time (and very unsophisticated) IT.

That job taught me the power of asking, “how can I help?” A good attitude, curiosity, and willingness to get your hands dirty can carry you a long way.

Where did you grow up
I grew up in Kitchener, Ontario and spent a few years in the farmlands of Saskatchewan. Hockey — whether on a rink, pond or road — was always on the agenda. Along with a love of the Toronto Maple Leafs (we all have our crosses to bear), these experiences taught me the importance of showing up for your teammates and the joy of winning together.

Perfect Saturday
Loading my son into the bike trailer and taking a ride around Minneapolis’ Chain of Lakes with my wife (with an occasional pitstop at one or two of the local breweries) then heading home to watch the Saturday night Leafs game.

History with your own family business?
My uncle owned and ran a small business in our hometown. Over the years, my entire family found ways to pitch in (even something as small as weeding the garden beds out front, in my case). Growing up around that gave me an appreciation for the hard work and persistence that it takes to make a business successful and the responsibility that comes with being part of the community that supports you.

What word best defines you?
Resilient.
